About the site

Debt payoff planning without an account or a sales pitch.

DebtSnowball.org is an independent educational calculator and guide library for people who want a concrete plan for paying down multiple debts. The core calculator is free to use and does not require an account.

Why the site is called DebtSnowball.org

We recommend the Debt Snowball for most people because it prioritizes earlier account closures and visible progress. Debt Avalanche generally minimizes modeled interest when the same monthly debt budget is used, and the calculator shows that difference transparently. Our position is that the lowest theoretical interest cost is not the only useful dimension of a payoff plan; the plan also has to be understandable and sustainable.

What we build

  • A calculator that compares minimum payments, Snowball, and Avalanche using one fixed monthly debt budget.
  • Accountless save/share links and branded Excel/CSV exports.
  • A free debt payoff workbook for monthly progress tracking.
  • Educational guides that explain payoff mechanics, tradeoffs, and special cases.

What we are not

DebtSnowball.org is not a lender, debt-settlement company, credit counselor, law firm, tax adviser, investment adviser, student-loan servicer, or government agency. We do not invent professional credentials or present calculator estimates as lender quotes.

How we maintain trust

Calculator math is covered by automated tests. Content automation is governed so that overlapping topics are updated or merged rather than blindly creating new pages, and high-risk financial topics require human review. For program-specific or regulated questions, we prefer current primary sources such as the CFPB, Federal Student Aid, IRS, or FTC rather than unsupported generic advice.
